In short: Swing grips come in five sizes: junior, undersize, standard, midsize and jumbo. Measure your top hand from the crease of your wrist to the tip of your middle finger, or check your glove size, and match it to the chart below. Buy the grips you want online and we fit them for £3 a club, or £2.50 a club for 8 or more.
Measure your hand
Measure the hand that sits at the top of the grip: the left hand for a right-handed golfer, the right hand for a left-hander. Measure from the crease of your wrist to the tip of your middle finger. If you have a golf glove, the size printed inside it is a good second check.
The grip size chart
These are the sizes Golf Pride gives in its swing grip size guide. Other grip makers size their grips a little differently, so check the chart of the brand you buy.
| Grip size | Hand measurement | Glove size |
|---|---|---|
| Junior | Under 5 inches | Women’s XS, junior |
| Undersize | 5 to 6.5 inches | Men’s S, cadet S, women’s S and M |
| Standard | 6.6 to 7.5 inches | Men’s M or M/L, cadet M or M/L, women’s M/L and L |
| Midsize | 7.6 to 9 inches | Men’s L and XL, cadet L and XL |
| Jumbo | Over 9 inches | Men’s XL, XXL and XXXL, cadet XXL |
Check the feel
Hold the club in your top hand. With the right size, your fingers just touch the pad at the heel of your hand. If they dig into the pad, the grip is too small; if they do not reach it, the grip is too large.
Between two sizes
If one size feels too thin and the next too thick, Golf Pride suggests adding 2 to 4 wraps of tape under the grip, which makes it slightly thicker without going up a whole size. Golfers with arthritis or sore joints often find a size up more comfortable, as long as they can still hold the club securely.
Core size
Grips are also made with different core sizes: the hole the shaft fits into, marked as .58 or .60 on many grips. A grip whose core is smaller than the shaft feels firmer and a little thicker than its size suggests, so a .58 core standard grip on a .600 shaft feels thicker than a .60 core standard grip on the same shaft.
This chart is for swing grips, the grips on your irons, woods and wedges. Putter grips come in their own shapes and sizes.
Questions about grip sizes
Use the hand that sits at the top of the grip (the left hand for a right-handed golfer) and measure from the crease of your wrist to the tip of your middle finger. Golf Pride’s chart then gives the size: 6.6 to 7.5 inches is standard and 7.6 to 9 inches is midsize.
Golf Pride puts men’s large and XL gloves in midsize grips, and men’s medium in standard. Your hand measurement and how the grip feels decide it if the two disagree.
Golf Pride suggests the smaller size with 2 to 4 extra wraps of tape under the grip, which makes it slightly thicker without going up a whole size.
