TIPS TO HELP YOU IMPROVE THE MENTAL SIDE OF YOUR GAME

  1. Develop a good pre shot routine. First you need to evaluate your shot, do this when you get lets say 20 yards from your ball. Prior to this your thoughts should be elsewhere maybe idol chit chat with your playing partner. Many top sports performers like to look upwards maybe looking for aeroplanes or cloud patterns because its not possible to think negatively when looking upwards hence the saying ‘keep your chin up’. So make your mind up on distance and club selection and choose the shot your about to play. Now visualise the shot you are about to undertake. Make a practice swing or two but keep it the same number every time and finally have just one simple swing thought. This should be a simple instruction like ‘nice and slow’ or ‘tempo’ or any other single thought. Do this before every shot, always. Save everything else for the practice range.
